What Is Encore? The $1 Lottery Add-On Explained
2026-10-14 · 4 min read
Encore is a $1 add-on to Canadian lottery tickets. How the seven-digit number is matched, the $1 million top prize, and the odds for each prize level.
Encore is an optional add-on sold with games such as Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49 and Ontario 49. For $1 extra you get a randomly generated seven-digit number. Prizes depend on how many digits you match, read from the right or the left depending on the prize tier.
Key facts
- Price: $1 per play, added to an eligible ticket
- Top prize: $1 million for all seven digits in order
- Top-prize odds: 1 in 10,000,000
- Overall odds of winning any prize are much better than the top prize — roughly 1 in 3 to 1 in 4 depending on the operator's prize table
Is Encore worth it?
Like any lottery product, Encore has a negative expected value: on average it pays back less than it costs. Treat it as entertainment, not an investment. If you do play, check every digit position against the official prize table on your operator's site.
